Frequently Asked Questions

What's the background on type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the US?

Obesity and diabetes (T2D) are twin epidemics, and T2D is the 7th leading cause of death in the US. The American Diabetes Association reports more diabetes-related annual deaths than AIDS and breast cancer combined.(1) Today, 26 million Americans have type 2 diabetes, and every year, 1.5 million are newly diagnosed. The Centers for Disease Control estimates as many as 1 in 3 adults will have T2D by 2050.(2)

Problems this big require radical approaches. With public health top of mind, Rewind is changing the trajectory of how we tackle type 2 diabetes. We partner with each individual, and one community at a time, to create lasting metabolic change.

Rewind Program Overview

The Rewind program pairs proven clinical science with expert coaching and innovative technology to offer comprehensive behavioral, nutritional and medical interventions. Combined, these can reverse or “rewind” the underlying physiology of T2D. Members work with a dietitian coach, a physician, and a team of alike members to improve their personal health.

Members will use the Rewind app daily, tracking weight and other key metrics, and following the Rewind skills training. Through the app, members can have ongoing, personalized dialogue with the dietician coach and physician, and also chat with their team.

The first phase involves safe, rapid, and robust weight loss under physician and dietitian supervision. Members will be prescribed a very-low-calorie diet for approximately 12 weeks. During this time, members will experience significant weight loss and marked improvement in key metabolic markers (like glucose and HbA1c). With the app, members can track their weight loss progress, measured alongside their goals - they’ll see the team’s progress too!

The second phase lasts 4 -12 weeks, and tackles lifestyle choices (food and activity) with focus on maintenance of reduced weight; that is, prevention of weight regain! After achieving weight loss, the dietitian coach will help members develop a personalized food-based plan, tailored to the member’s food philosophy and individual preferences. Additionally, key skill development will be incorporated into the coaching to ensure successful integration of lifestyle changes.

The final phase centers around group support and individualized coaching so members can independently manage their new nutrition plan. With guidance from their clinical team, members will be coached on safely increasing physical activity so that they can maintain their new lower weight.

The Rewind program is a long-term partnership. Depending on each member’s progress and support needs, members will stay actively engaged with their clinical team for up to 100 weeks. Rewind will provide the network of relevant and skilled support to help each member reach their weight and health goals, as they need it.

Program Requirements

Members will have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within the past six years. Members must have access to a computer/phone/tablet and internet service in order to communicate with their support team.

How do I know this program works?

There is substantial clinical evidence that proves dramatic weight loss and subsequent weight maintenance can reverse or greatly improve T2D.(1) In Michigan alone, this system has been employed for over ten years, helping many diabetics reverse their disease.(2) In randomized controlled trials in both the US/EU, patients utilizing the Rewind protocol have demonstrated durable remission at 24 months of T2D, and a reduction in use of diabetes-related medications.

Is this for me?

The first essential hurdle to defeating T2D is believing that you can do it. There’s no question that it can be a difficult process (weight loss, developing lifestyle changes, a new point of view about your metabolism) - but if you commit, you will make progress!

What's all of this about team?

At Rewind we believe hard things are accomplished with internal drive and external support. So we partner our members together in ‘teams’ with common interests, knowing they’ll create the encouragement and accountability we all need when doing something difficult. Together with our clinical support team and fan-favorite athletes, we’ll help our members with the motivation, tips, suggestions and problem-solving needed to defeat T2D.

Where is Rewind available? When will it come to my region?

Rewind is launching in our first market: Michigan. Our highly specialized team of physicians and dietitian coaches are all deeply ingrained in this community, and will be able to help troubleshoot our members’ specific needs based on their local knowledge of the region.

Rewind will be expanding to other regions across the US.
